Shackup Cabin’s Tower

This was the first big project I ever led, and it was a wild one. Shackup Cabins wanted to build a cabin on a steel tower — about 30 feet off the ground — and I told them, half-joking, “If you get the steel there, I’ll build it.” They followed through, and we made it happen.

We framed the floor system right on top of the steel, then used a crane bolted to the tower itself to lift materials up to the deck. With tight tolerances, limited access, and fall/winter weather in Nova Scotia, the site conditions were a real challenge. But it all came together. This build taught me a lot about sequencing, rigging, and collaboration — and helped lay the foundation for what would eventually become Little River Builders.
